Where do you get started with your online BIZ idea?

I recently shared a Podcast where I chatted about where my headspace is at with DAILYDOSEDANIE. It took me about 6 months of looking into different things, not being sure where and what to do with my new free time. I had some many ideas and thoughts but nothing stuck with me. I had to STOP and remeber to “Just be me”. Find something you like and find interesting just be authentically you. It’s okay if only your friends are cheering you on, you have to start somewhere.

I am starting on this journey and want to share it as I go along, so that we can learn from each others processes, mistakes and skills sets. This is why starting to connect with entrepreneurs in the start-up scene. I believe we all have so much potential and by being a part of a community and being open and hoenst with each other, we lift each other up, keep each other accountable and get inspired. I hope to share that with you through my Podcast to help us all connect & collaborate with each other.

It’s okay to start from zero

I do not have many followers, and am currently still planning out my shop, courses, events and other items I can utilise to market and build revenue. I am basically at zero and that’s okay. I just got started, and it will all take time, it will change 10,000 times more this is just part of the process. Below are just some of my suggestions where to start, but there are so many ways you can get going with your idea to execution there is not one recipe that works for all.

Where should you start?

I have an idea…

Great — that’s cool, so how will you share it with the world? How do you get what is in your head, streamlined, clear and out there for the world to notice.

[No website — no worries]

You can start very small, by just kickstarting a blog, or a podcast and focus on that one thing. The great part of a blog or Podcast, means you are driving topics of interest and are making it easy for people to find you through tags and collaborations with others. Say you have a blog or Podcast, best thing is to get noticed, share with your friends and network, then start reaching out to be a guest for someone or write a piece on people and ask them to share it.

[ I want to build a website ]

This will take a while, but once you get into that rhythm, what can you do next. Well having a website is great, it helps you to streamline all you are doing in once interactive space. If you have the know how, and budget to start one then awesome.

I personally built my website out on WIX but a lot of people prefer Shopify, which is a little bit more expensive but great if your idea is to have a more integrated shopping experience for your customers. Both are great options depending on your budget and what you are trying to do online.

One things for sure when building your website you will need a good photographer to help you get the best visuals for your webstie and make it more personal. If like me you are not the best writer, I am always asking my friends to help spell check and grammar check all that I do. A second opinion always helps especially if it is osme one in the same industry as you. Also before you start creating your website, find a similair one to benchmark off of look at Pinterest ideas and decide on your color palette, look and feel.

[ I have a website, blog or Podcast what’s next]

In my opinion your most valuable tools can be email marketing — tapping into your current network and beyond. Reminding people what you are up to and that you have interesting things going on, by letting them know each month, through sending them a personal email follow up.

The most important here is to create and design emails with a CTA an strategy in mind. make it look cool, make it engaging and drive your followers to external links of interest. Even some of the top Podcasters that I follow, send the most dull emails, I am just so disappointed, they are so on brand with everything else how did they forget about their emails?

With WIX, Shopify or even a Mail-chimp account you can get going with some great templates. To cover your email automations as well as you email campaign designs.

[Social media and partnerships]

This is one of my favite ways to connect with people and grow awereness is the organic way. I love planning out giveaways and partnerships to best increase visibility. Social media can then be the best to tool to help you share your Blog posts, podcasts, collaboration and services. It can help share what you are doing and increase the visibility of your work. But most of all planning fun activities with partners to create interesting content relevant to your audience and brand.

I usually use this excel sheet to help me plan out monthly activations with different partners, it helps me get organised and plan ahead slotting each person into the. months that I need them, wether you are doing paid collaborations, free collabs or products seeding, planning ahead really does help you maximise your time and efforts.
